Foundation History
Brown Ledge is steeped in tradition, from its memorable songs to its unique philosophy. In December 1996, we took the opportunity to preserve this tradition through a dramatic change. The Brown Ledge Foundation, Inc. was formed as a Vermont nonprofit corporation by a group of individuals affiliated with Brown Ledge Camp, a summer camp for girls located in Vermont on Lake Champlain.
Our Mission Statement:
The Brown Ledge Foundation oversees the operation, perpetuation, and educational mission of Brown Ledge Camp. The Foundation exists to support Camp’s current and future programs and preserve its natural setting on Lake Champlain.
Current Board of Directors [as of June 2012]:
Emily Maggs Orben (President), Sarah Maggs Riley (Vice-President), Bill Neilsen (Treasurer), Liz Smith Strimple (Secretary), Sarah Ashworth, Abbey Dodd, Gregg Donoghue, Fred Fishel (ex officio), Kedron Gierman Fix, Nancy Weaver Jones, Josh Podvin, and Greg Snedeker.
Donations to the Foundation help meet the growing costs of operating camp that camper tuition alone cannot cover. Donations help to keep the facilities and environment at high quality as well as providing scholarships for young women who may not otherwise experience the joy of Brown Ledge Camp. As a 501 (c)(3) non-for-profit organization, donations are tax-deductible.
