Staff range from 19 to 65+, with an average of about 26 years of age, and represent a variety of backgrounds, skills and personalities. 15-20% of the staff are from outside the United States adding an international flavor. Counselor positions include instructors of horsemanship, theatre arts, tennis, archery, arts & crafts, riflery, sailing, swimming (WSI), diving, canoeing, kayaking and water-skiing, as well as nurse (RN), secretary, swim team coach, musical director, and boat pilot. Other positions include maintenance (knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, etc.); grounds maintenance; cook, general kitchen help; stable help and bugler.

Brown Ledge is a place where campers can have fun and relax. It is also a place where each camper has full opportunity to receive quality instruction from beginner to advanced levels at her own pace. All activities operate throughout each day allowing each campers to attend activities when and for the length of time she chooses. Staff is given a great deal of autonomy in the operation of activity departments and instructional format. Because of this counselors are hired for their maturity and sense of responsibility, as well as experience and/or performance ability.
